Smiley Faces

You know how there are those people who when writing ALWAYS use exclamation marks (I just happen to be one of them), well I have discovered as of late that I am a habitual user of smiley faces. I LOVE them!!! I am especially fond of using them while chatting, like on facebook. I can just be typing along and if a smile comes on my face (or in my heart), it comes out on the keypad as well :)

I not only love smiley faces while typing but in life. There is nothing like the smile on someones face to let you know that whatever you did wrong is ok or that they know just what your thinking. A smile on my own face can change the way a clerk might treat me or how my husband or children perceive what I'm saying. Proverbs 15:30 says, "A cheerful look brings joy to the heart" My mom used to sing a song to my sister and I sometimes in the mornings that went like this, "Good morning to you, good morning to you, we're all in our places, with sunshiny faces, and this is the way, to start a new day!"

pretty is . . . a smiley face!

Pretty is a Pear

Every morning, since May, when I look out my bathroom window the first thing I see is my neighbors pear tree. I was amazed in the beginning to see how tiny and yet perfectly shaped each little pear was.

Now I can hardly wait til they are ripe and ready to eat! The truth of the matter is I never even ate pears until last years harvest and I just couldn't help myself from loving something that I had seen grow with my very own eyes.

Growing up on a farm in Arkansas I don't think I ever really appreciated all the green beans I had to snap and all the peas I had to shuck so that my mother could can them for the winter. I now have a better understanding of the joy she must have felt at seeing what God can create from a seed, some water and the sun :)

What's for Dinner?

A phrase you hear each day when you pick your kids up from school, when they get home from practice or even when they get home from work (that's right, even college kids ask this question! Who knew?) is one that makes most moms cringe or at least let out a sigh of exasperation.
This month I am working temporarily at another job and have to work later than usual, so it has been extremely hard to get dinner on the table (if I'm making dinner at all) in time for my youngest daughter to get to volleyball practice. So imagine my delight to hear my husband say "Don't worry hon, I'll go to the store and make dinner tonight!" Now first of all I wasn't sure what I would come home to find seeing that my husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy and usually when he makes dinner those are the ONLY two items we would be having. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was to come home to a beautifully set table, completely prepared dinner (including two vegetables and no potatoes!) and my whole family sitting at the table just waiting for me!

Dinner and the movies with the girls and my wonderful husband and it's not even Friday!

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Well, fellow blogger or followers (Cindy) I had really great intentions of making my first blog something spectacular! But, here I am with nothing spectacular, at the end (kind of) of the day and I am still uninformed about blogging and just not ready. HOWEVER, I am at least making a post, right?
I will just give you an idea of what I would like to do. I would like to post a picture each day and make a short comment of exactly what I find or found "pretty" that day. Now keep in mind that I am not just talking about beauty pageant, Hollywood, vogue pretty. The kind of "pretty" that I will be looking for is the sometimes hidden and sometimes obvious beauty in the world and in people.
Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart!
Thanks for understanding that I (and this blog) are a work in progress.
Pretty is . . . a good intention
